JOHANNESBURG - The N1 South before Maraisburg Road has now been completely closed.
An earlier accident involving two trucks has resulted in a diesel spill.
Three people sustained minor injuries and emergency services remain on scene.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said that motorists could expect heavy delays.
"Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, it is now confirmed that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. This closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced."
