JOHANNESBURG - The Gautrain Management Agency believes that its KlevaMova initiative will positively impact its business as it will introduce a new market to its services.
Last week, the Gauteng transport department and the company announced that they would be introducing a 50% discount on trips to individuals who fall within the qualifying categories.
The discount will apply to individuals living in households with a combined household annual income of R350,000 or less, students under the age of 25, scholars, pensioners, and recipients of the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) disability grant.
The initiative forms a part of the government's efforts to make safe, efficient, and convenient public transport accessible to all.
Gautrain’s spokesperson, Albi Modise, said it was important for their services not to be limited to the middle-class or high-income households.
"We believe strongly that we'll be able to increase the current numbers of people that are using the system, but also ensure that the issue of access, the issue of inclusion are met as well as part of our efforts to growing the province of Gauteng."
