CAPE TOWN - It could be another two to four days of dry taps for Knysna residents, as the municipality scrambles to resolve challenges with its system.
It’s been almost two weeks since the town’s main domestic water pump broke down, leaving residents in some wards without running water.
Affected areas include Brenton-on-Sea, Biagai, Sunridge and Noetzie.
The installation of the new water pumps began on Sunday, while water tankers continue to supply water to impacted regions.
Gift of the Givers spokesperson, Mario Ferreira, says there doesn’t appear to be a quick fix to the solution.
“We’ve been led to believe that at least for the next week, things won't stabilise, and reservoir levels will have to be lifted before opening up fully towards the public.”
He added that the organisation would work around the clock to aid the community.
“In the meantime, Gift of the Givers is providing water to communities all over we’ve got five teams on the ground we’ve got water tankers running around we’ve got trucks with bottled water hats servicing from old age homes, creches, schools, businesses even some of the government departments within Knysna.”
