CAPE TOWN - A trial-within-a-trial to decide whether certain evidence can be used in the high-profile trial of alleged underworld figure Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and others continues in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.
Booysen and 12 others face various charges related to the murder of illegal steroid dealer Brian Wainstein in 2017.
A police captain, who cannot be named, continued with his testimony in a trial-within-a-trial to decide whether thirty-eight phone calls extracted from Jerome "Donkie" Booysen's cellphone can be used as evidence against the accused.
The crime intelligence captain, who can only be identified as "Mister Y", was tasked to record phone calls made on Booysen's cellular device.
The defence attorney for Booysen, Amanda Nel, questioned Mister Y about whether copies of the recording can be manipulated before being presented as evidence in court.
Mister Y admitted he cannot say whether manipulation of the recordings is possible.
The trial-within-a-trial continues.
