JOHANNESBURG - Tributes continue pouring in for the late renowned South African actor, Presley Chweneyagae, who died on Tuesday at the age of 40.

Chweneyagae has been hailed as a powerhouse whose contribution to the entertainment industry has been cemented.

The thespian rose to fame after playing the lead role in the Oscar-winning South African film Tsotsi.

He also starred in local productions such as The River and was in a spin-off show based on the character ‘Cobra’.

Chweneyagae assumed every role with dedication and vigour.

Born in 1984 in the northwest, Chweneyagae kickstarted his illustrious career on stage at the tender age of 10 – before landing his biggest TV role, which catapulted him into stardom…

His ability to embody characters stunned his fellow co-stars, as Dr Jerry Mofokeng wa Makhetha explains.

"As directors say, “don’t act. Just find the truth of the moment,” and that’s what he was able to do," said Mofokeng wa Makhetha.

But the curtain has closed as the villain who ran the gritty streets of Johannesburg, and the misunderstood uncle takes his final bow.

Fans and industry colleagues have taken to social media to mourn a life lived briefly but well.
