EC MEC Nqatha condemns murder of a police officer in Ngqamakhwe

JOHANNESBURG - Eastern Cape Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has condemned the murder of a police officer in Ngqamakhwe.
It's understood that the officer was ambushed and gunned down near a police station on Saturday afternoon.

After the suspect fled the scene, it's alleged he then went on a hijacking spree stealing five cars during his escape.
The suspect was later traced to eNgcobo in the province where he was killed by police during a shootout.
"The provincial government is deeply saddened by the tragic shooting of the police officer in Ngqamakwe, and MEC Nqatha would like to express his deepest sympathy to the grieving family, of the slain police officer," said department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa.
"MEC Nqatha has also praised police for their prompt efforts in defending both the communities and authority of the state."
