– Vuyo Mere, retired footballer
“[Ageism] is wrong, I don’t want to lie. It’s not only me, there are a lot of players who were doing so well for themselves and the country and they were just retired, they didn’t retire [themselves]… It’s sad.”
– Vuyo Mere, retired footballer
“It has become a culture in South Africa, when you reach a certain age, over 30 or 31, you are no longer regarded as a senior guy. You are old and it is time to retire.”
