JOHANNESBURG - In an initiative aimed at improving long-standing sanitation issues in some communities of the North West, a newly refurbished sewer pump station is set to be launched this week.
Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina will officially hand over the refurbished Boitekong sewer pump station and outfall sewer on Friday.
The infrastructure upgrade is set to dramatically reduce sewer blockages — a problem that has plagued residents in communities including Freedom Park, Boitekong, Meriting, and Seraleng.
Department spokesperson Cornelius Monama said: "The water infrastructure project is one of the many fast-tracked projects under Operation Bulela Metsi, which was launched by the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, and the premier of North West in July 2023 to accelerate access to water and sanitation services in the province."
