CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile won’t be drawn into discussing details of the disciplinary inquiry into members of his VIP protection, who were arrested for assaulting a man on the N1 highway in Johannesburg two years ago.
The internal disciplinary inquiry led by the police cleared Mashatile’s protectors despite video evidence showing them physically assaulting the motorist.
Mashatile was asked about their disciplinary process during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon.
He told MPs that to allow the process to take place without any interference, he hasn’t attempted to arrange a meeting with the complainant.
"Let me emphasise that the office of the national commissioner of police was responsible for the disciplinary process of the eight members of the presidential services we are talking about. I was personally not involved in these procedures."
