5 men convicted of Glebelands hostel killings to be sentenced

DURBAN - The five men convicted of mass murder at the Glebelands hostel will be sentenced in the Durban High Court on Wednesday.
The group was nabbed after nine people were shot and killed at the hostel in June 2023.
The convicts were all members of the hostel's housing committee who ran an extortion syndicate, charging residents R6,000 for a bed.
The group was found guilty of eight of the nine murders in April.
Judge Mokgere Masipa will deliver judgment on Wednesday.
The accused were all members of the hostel residents and housing committee were charged with 9 murders after they allegedly shot and killed people who refused to give in to threats of giving up their beds at the hostel. @_NMabaso
