JOHANNESBURG - City Power has cut the electricity to a house in Houghton, where 90 undocumented foreigners were found living in squalor.

The property was raided on Wednesday during an operation led by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and the city’s public safety department.

Authorities say the premises were overcrowded and posed a health hazard.

Suspected illegal electricity connections prompted what city power calls a level‑3 disconnection.

That’s the highest form of power cut, with teams removing both the feeder and internal cables from the yard.

City Power says it’s cracking down on the abuse of municipal infrastructure, as part of efforts to clean up hijacked and unsafe buildings across Johannesburg.
