JOHANNESBURG - Some residents in the City of Tshwane are currently facing a power outage after the emergency shutdown of the Brakfontein substation.

The power cut was prompted in the early hours of Sunday morning after security personnel reported smoke coming from inside the facility.

The affected areas include The Reeds and South, Heuweloord, Amberfield, and Wierda Park.

The city said its technical teams have been dispatched to the site and successfully isolated the communication panel suspected to be the source of the issue.

As a safety precaution, the city said it had to shut down the entire substation to allow its maintenance team to inspect and clean any carbon residue that may have spread to adjacent panels.

It added that the cleaning process is necessary to prevent further electrical faults and to ensure safe restoration of power.

Power restoration is anticipated later on Sunday, pending completion of the cleaning and safety checks.
