CAPE TOWN - Cape Town's disaster risk management teams are on high alert as an intense cold front is expected to make landfall on Wednesday.

The stormy weather is hitting the Western Cape and the Northern Cape from Wednesday morning and is expected to continue until Friday.

Residents are being urged to be extra careful.

The weather office has warned residents to brace for very cold, wet and windy conditions.

There are also warnings for rough seas, gale force winds and heavy rains that may lead to flooding.

Weather service forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela, said that snowfall was also possible over the western mountain ranges of the Western Cape.

"Wet and slippery roads may result in dangerous driving conditions. Motorists should exercise caution and adhere to safety measures. Strong and gusty winds over the interior may cause localised damage to structures and uproot trees."

Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Centre is pleading with residents to take heed of the warnings and do as much as possible to safeguard their properties.

It's also alerted all relevant departments and external partners to be on standby for potential impacts.
