JOHANNESBURG - Police in Tweefontein, KwaMhlanga, in Mpumalanga, are investigating the motive behind the kidnapping, carjacking and murder of a teacher.
Sam Maimela, who was an educator at a high school in Kwaggafontein, was last seen leaving his workplace and driving home last Friday.
Police believe he was kidnapped by three suspects just before he drove into his residence.
A car tracking device led to the discovery of his vehicle and later to three suspects who were found in possession of a firearm and live ammunition.
The men aged between 23 and 34 directed police to a secluded area in Gemsbokspruit, where Maimela’s body was found.
Mpumalanga South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Donald Mdluli says the suspects face charges of kidnapping, stealing a vehicle and murder.
"A post-mortem will be conducted; however, it is suspected that the victim was shot. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage, and it will form part of the investigation. The three are expected to appear at the Kwamhlanga Magistrate's Court soon."
