CAPE TOWN - Residents of Village One informal settlement in Lwandle, near Strand, are pleading with their leaders to move them to a place of safety.
They are among thousands of people severely affected by torrential rain across the Western Cape.
In some parts of the province, families who’ve experienced the worst of the Cape storm have been housed in community halls.
Village One informal settlement is an overcrowded area situated on a wetland next to a canal.

The homes of residents here, like in so many others in the province, have been flooded due to the heavy rainfall of the past two days.
Community leader Thulani Nonyathi says the conditions are not healthy, especially for children.
"The problem we are facing is the flooding inside the houses. If we can get a community hall, things will be better for us for now because the problem is the canal, which is not cleaned, that's why the water is not going anywhere."
Western Cape residents are urged to stay indoors as more heavy rain is expected in the region.
