If you're looking for a movie the whole family can enjoy over the upcoming school holidays, the proudly South African animation Jungle Beat 2: The Past hits cinemas tomorrow (Friday) - marking another milestone for African animation.
It is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2020 hit film Jungle Beat: The Movie, which made waves globally on Netflix, reaching number one in the US, UK, and Australia and airing in over 180 countries.
The Jungle Beat phenomenon began in 2008 with the introduction of the lovable characters Munki and Trunk.
"The series originally started out as a bunch of individual characters in the jungle, it was just a slapstick funny show, with no dialogue."
- Sam Wilson, Writer/Director - Jungle Beat
Since then, it’s grown into a global franchise with 8 seasons, over 11 million YouTube subscribers, and a staggering 5 billion lifetime views.
"People got to know the characters and that built up to the first Jungle Beat movie, when an alien crash landed in the jungle and brought the power of speech to the animals."
- Sam Wilson, Writer/Director - Jungle Beat
Jungle Beat 2: The Past will screen in cinemas and makes Jungle Beat the first-ever African animation film franchise.
"When there came a chance to make a sequel, it was a no brainer."
Sam Wilson, Writer/Director - Jungle Beat
