JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane council Speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana is expected to face a Democratic Alliance (DA)-sponsored motion of no-confidence on Thursday.
The party accuses the African Transformation Movement (ATM) councillor of disregarding council rules and procedures, claiming he abuses his position of authority.
Ndzwanana was elected to the role over two years ago, with the support of the African National Congress (ANC)-led coalition.
DA chief whip Ofentse Madzebatela said the Speaker’s decisions were driven by emotion rather than the rules of council.
"We have lost all confidence in him in ensuring that he plays a fair and partial role in chairing council. We will therefore call upon all other councillors to support this motion, whether you are in opposition or in the government opposition, so that we can get a Speaker who is fair and just."
