JOHANNESBURG – Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed Ghana’s Asante Kotoko as their opponents for the second edition of the Toyota Cup.
The 2025 Toyota Cup heads to Durban's Moses Mabhida on 26 July - a change from 2024's visit to the Free State.
“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil. Asante Kotoko are part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy.
"Durban is not only the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa, but a perfect place to write the next chapter of our history after winning the Nedbank Cup in May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium,” said Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director at Kaizer Chiefs.
Amakhosi and the Ghanaian giants once met in the 2021 Vodacom Challenge, where Chiefs won the highly contested game 3 - 2 on penalties after a goalless draw at Kings Park Stadium in Durban.
Asante Kotoko are one of Africa’s most decorated clubs with 50 official trophies, including two CAF Champions League titles.
The Toyota Cup debuted in 2024 with Kaizer Chiefs hosting Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
In a press release, Kaizer Chiefs said ahead of the match, there will be a curtain raiser between the Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Zulu Kingdom Legends at midday, which will include icons such as Doctor Khumalo, Sibusiso Zuma, Jabu Mahlangu, Delron Buckley and more.
