JOHANNESBURG - The South African Police Service (SAPS) said that speculation around the alleged imminent arrest of National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola had the potential to undermine its operations.
This comes after reports emerged claiming that Masemola was set to be arrested for allegedly authorising the irregular purchase of properties worth R120 million.
On Sunday, the police ministry announced that it did not know about any pending arrest of the national commissioner.
Spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said the allegations should be put to bed.
"We have also noted the response from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) on this speculation. We plead with the media to avoid any speculation on this as speculation of this nature has an adverse impact on the named person and also has an effect of destabilising the work of the South African Police Service."
