JOHANNESBURG - Repairs are finally underway to restore power to areas, including the N4 highway.
The City of Tshwane has started work to repair infrastructure that was damaged due to vandalism.
The outage, affecting the major highway that joins Gauteng to Mpumalanga and the North West, has been off for several years.
Work on the damaged infrastructure started at the weekend.
Authorities had to disconnect the power completely to start the repairs.
Two substations, including the Mooikloof and Wapadrand substations, which supply electricity to areas including Parkview, Woodlands, Garsfontein and Lombard, were shut down for a few hours.
Technical challenges, including a breakdown failure have resulted in the migration to the new power lines being disrupted, leaving residents in the dark for longer.
The MMC for Utility Services in Tshwane, Frans Boshielo is urging residents to be patient during this time.
