CAPE TOWN - Kidnapping-accused Shameemah Jacobs made a brief appearance in the Bellville Magistrates on Thursday, after being arrested for abducting a newborn baby.
The baby boy was snatched from the Middestad Mall in Bellville on Saturday.
Jacobs was arrested on Monday after being found with the baby in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.
The 37-year-old walked into the dock with her face covered in a navy-blue scarf and surgical mask.
State prosecutor Simon Salaahuddeen asked Magistrate Theo Marx for more time to collect bail information about the accused.
Jacobs is charged with kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice after police tracked her down to Tafelsig, in Mitchells Plain, after the baby was abducted on Saturday.
Salaahuddeen indicated the State will oppose bail and that Jacobs should remain in custody.
Marx postponed the matter to 10 July 2025 for the State to obtain a bail profile for Jacobs.
