CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has called on families to consider Sunday or weekday burials to help ease Saturday congestion as heavy downpours forecast for this weekend.
Authorities say adverse weather may make walking in graveyards challenging.
MMC for Community Service and Health, Councillor Francine Higham, had this plea to grieving families.
"The heavy rain can impact Cemetery operations like digging or reopening of graves and makes walking conditions challenging, with dozens of burials scheduled for this weekend, we urge visitors to please take care."
Cemeteries are typically very busy on weekends, with Saturday being the most popular.
"The City encourages those planning funerals to please consider Sunday or weekday burials, to reduce congestion at cemeteries."
