CT cops make arrests in Mitchells Plain after recent deadly shootings

CAPE TOWN – A multi-disciplinary police team has made several arrests in Mitchells Plain, where a flare-up of gang-related shootings left five people dead and seven others injured.
Police said teams were deployed to Beacon Valley, Tafelsig and Portlands, where 43 suspected gang houses were searched.
Fourteen suspects were arrested for murder and attempted murder, and seven are behind bars for being caught with illegal guns.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said at one house, a licensed nine-millimetre pistol and ammunition were confiscated and an inquiry was registered.
Van Wyk said five more firearms and an assortment of ammunition were confiscated at the residence.
"Seven suspects aged between 17 and 46 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition. Fourteen suspects aged between 20 and 39 were arrested for murder and attempted murder, and a 30-year-old suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition."
Van Wyk said the suspects were set to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court on Monday.
