JOHANNESBURG -Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has admitted to knowing Brown Mogotsi after denying in Parliament that he was familiar with the controversial man.
Mogotsi's name recently came into the spotlight during KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's bombshell media briefing on Sunday.
Mkhwanazi said he received texts and confidential documents from Mogotsi, who is alleged to be the police minister's acquaintance.
On 5 March this year, Mkhwanazi told the police portfolio committee about the messages he received from Mogotsi.

"In 2024, on the 29th of October, I received a phone call and a message that came from a gentleman who said to me he is a close associate to the minister of police and he referred to himself as a Mr Brown Mogotsi."
In the same meeting, Mchunu denied knowing Mogotsi.
"We must be very circumspect when people come to us and say I’m an associate of this and that. I'm no associate to the person General Mkhwanazi is referring to."
But in a media statement released this morning, Mchunu said he has met Mogotsi and refers to him as a comrade and not an associate.
