JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police said they have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests in the murder case of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek.
This follows the arrest of the child's mother last week in connection with his death.
Tiffany Nicole Meek made her first appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate Court on Monday.
Jayden's body was found outside of his family home in Fleurhof less than two months ago.
It came hours after his mother reported him missing, claiming the child failed to return home from school.
National Prosecution Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said Tiffany Meek faces multiple charges.
'JUSTICE FOR JAYDEN-LEE MEEK' - COMMUNITY
A group of angry residents is calling for the maximum punishment for Meek.
A large group gathered outside the Roodepoort Magistrates Court, chanting "justice for Jayden-Lee Meek".
The community members have shared emotional pleas with journalists on Monday, accusing Meek of failing to protect her child.
Katherine Prince said the latest development is saddening, with a worrying thought that the child's mother might be responsible for his brutal killing.
“I have a special daughter. And we are supposed to protect our children. I mean, look at animals. Even animals protect their puppies, their kids. You understand my point? And for this, I don't know. I don't know. For a mother, she's heartless.
The case has been postponed to Friday to allow for further investigations.
