JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education anticipates that it will be provided with a report into possible abuse suffered by the late Jayden-Lee Meek at the hands of his mother by next week.

The department stepped in to investigate the claims after allegations that the young boy may have been a victim of child abuse.

The 11-year-old boy was found murdered at the doorstep of his family home at a residential complex in Fleurhof in Roodepoort, in Gauteng’s Westrand.

Meek’s mother, Tiffany, made her first appearance before the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Monday for the youngster’s death.

Provincial education authorities said they have reason to believe that the slain child may have reported the abuse to officials at Royal College in Florida, Roodepoort, where the boy was a learner until his life was cut short.

“By next week, we should have a report because the other officials that are supposed to be interacting with the school and the officials from the independent schools will also do more groundwork, taking cognisance of what the school would’ve told them and they should be in a position to provide a full report,” said Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona.
