CAPE TOWN - Trade union Solidarity has rejected FlySafair's final wage offer of a 5.7% increase for pilot salaries.
This comes after three months of talks between the company and the union, representing two-thirds of the airline's pilots.
FlySafair pilots are demanding a 10.5% salary increase for the 2025-2026 financial year, a 4.5% increase in the consumer price inflation for 2026/2027 and 4% increase for 2027/2028.
Solidarity's Helgard Cronje said that the rejection was not just about the final offer.
"The pilots overwhelmingly rejected the final offer of the company but this has been building up for several months. There's a dispute about a change in the rostering system which also remains unresolved and this has led to a strained relationship prior to the negotiations kicking off. Another contentious issue is the way in which off-days and leave days are administered by the company, and this added fuel to the fire."
Meanwhile, FlySafair said it was proactively rearranging its flights from next Tuesday until 28 August to prepare for a potential strike by the pilots.
