CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape government is hoping to strengthen trade ties with Canada as both countries face tariff hikes imposed by the US.
Agriculture MEC Ivan Meyer met with Canada’s Finance Minister Francois Philippe Champagne on Tuesday night.
The Western Cape exports citrus fruit to Canada and both parties invest in projects that benefit the other.
Meyer said that they planned on growing the economy through these partnerships and creating more jobs in the province.
"With the current trade war and tariffs, the Western Cape government found new reliable partners in Canada and the Western Cape government is open for business. Various projects to promote trade and investments have been discussed with our Canadian partners."
