JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)  has confirmed the case of a woman who allegedly ran over a 13-year-old girl will finally be heard in court.

In June, 13-year-old Pretty Mahlangu died after a woman rammed her car into a group of girls during a traditional coming-of-age ceremony in Germiston.

The matter was set to be heard at the Germiston Magistrates Court earlier in July, however, it was not placed on the court roll to allow for further police investigations.

A coming-of-age ceremony turned into tragedy last month when a 68-year-old woman drove into a group of girls attending the ceremony in Germiston, Ekurhuleni.

Authorities confirmed that on 28 June, a culpable homicide case was opened at the Germiston Police Station but was later provisionally withdrawn pending further investigation.

According to police, the woman was arrested on 2 July and was released on R5,000 station bail after consultation with a prosecutor.

However, almost three weeks after the incident, the matter had yet to appear in court.

On Thursday, police confirmed that a new warrant of arrest for the 68-year-old was issued on Wednesday.

And the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the matter had been placed on the court roll and would be heard before the Germiston Magistrates Court on Friday.
