JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Health Department is continuing with registrations of ex-miners for benefits linked to diseases acquired during their work underground.

The process in Ekurhuleni started on Monday morning and will run until 22 August, after moving from the West Rand.

The purpose of the project is to ensure that eligible ex-miners can receive benefits they may have missed and medical surveillance.

Ex–miners are urged to visit the Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital, Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Tambo Memorial Hospital and Pholosong Hospital in Ekurhuleni to register.

Provincial department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba said: "To facilitate a smooth running process, we advise those that are coming to make sure that the ex-mine workers to bring their what they call makhulu skop, their identity documents and any relevant paperwork from their mining companies."
