JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza has commended law enforcement authorities for urgently investigating the murder of the city’s senior forensic auditor, Mpho Mafole.
Mafole was shot on the R23 highway in Kempton Park earlier in July while returning home from a work-related meeting.
A suspect believed to be connected to the murder is making his first appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Wednesday, following his arrest on Sunday.
Speaking outside court, Xhakaza expressed confidence that more breakthroughs in the case will be made.
“We are really grateful for law enforcement agencies because something is happening. This is going to give comfort to South Africans in that there is action.”
He said officials are confident that justice will prevail.
“The employees’ mood in the city is positive, and they’re encouraged that the arm of the law is working.”
