CAPE TOWN - The Cape Flats Safety Forum has welcomed the City of Cape Town's announcement that 700 new "neighbourhood police officers" will be deployed across Cape Town.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that at least five officers would be deployed to every ward throughout Cape Town during spring.
The officers are being trained to have a multitude of skills and will form relationships with residents to help solve some of the challenges communities face.
Cape Flats Safety Forum chairperson Abie Isaacs said the neighbourhood cops were welcome.
"We welcome any additional deployment from any law enforcement agency to assist in reducing crime in our respective areas. This is a drop in the ocean, but we welcome it with open arms."
