JOHANNEBSURG - Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero has said the metro has obtained a court order allowing the city to demolish structures built at unauthorised informal settlements.
The metro launched an operation on Friday targeting illegal informal settlements, starting with the Ginger park community in Sandton.
Morero said the operation is crucial for enforcing city by-laws.
"We will deal with South Africans who are here and find them alternative accommodations. So, in essence, we are starting with an operation, we will start with our surburbs so that we can restore law and order in this province," said Morero.
