JOHANNESBURG - Police have opened a case of armed robbery and attempted murder after the bombing of a cash-in-transit van in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni.

On Monday, a cash van was blown to pieces in the middle of Mahoro Street, damaging several houses, including the fence of a primary school.

A manhunt has been launched for at least 10 suspects reportedly involved in the incident.

Police said no deaths or injuries were reported during the incident.

During preliminary investigations, forensic teams found several spent cartridges littered across the street, with pieces of the cash van found as far as homes that were several blocks away from the incident.

According to police, the suspects managed to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police have confirmed that a security guard was injured during the shootout and is receiving medical treatment.

Further investigations will be conducted by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks).
