JOHANNESBURG - A former municipal manager in the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality is set to appear in court on Tuesday in connection with the brutal murder of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) secretary general Sindiso Magaqa.
The political killings task team arrested the ex-municipal manager in Durban on Monday.
Magaqa was killed in a hail of bullets in 2017 in what is believed to have been a politically motivated hit.
The former Umzimkhulu municipal manager, whose name cannot be disclosed until he appears in court, was previously arrested in 2018 in connection with the murder of Magaqa.
However, the State withdrew the charges against him in 2019, citing insufficient evidence.
Recently, new evidence has emerged linking him to the crime.
This is after the hitman hired to kill Magaqa confessed and alleged the former municipal manager was involved in the assassination.
“The former municipal manager is expected to appear before the Umzimkhulu Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 29 July 2025,” said police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
The hitman was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment.
