JOHANNESBURG – The City of Tshwane metro has implemented an alternative water supply as a safety precaution through Rand Water's back-up system, as it investigates reports of smelly and discoloured water at its Montana Reservoir.

The city said technical teams are working to determine the cause of the odour and restore the quality of the water supplied to the reservoir.

Several areas have been affected, including Cynthia Vale, Doornpoort, Wonderboom, Hartebeesfontein, Magalieskruin and all extensions in Sinoville.

Spokesperson Selby Bokaba explained: “Customers will be updated as soon as the cause has been determined and collective action has been confirmed. The city sincerely apologises for this unforeseen disruption of an essential service and pleads for customers' patience and understanding during this period.”
