JOHANNESBURG - The Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture has recovered R11 billion in assets.
This was revealed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in a statement giving an update on the progress of the inquiry.
The commission, which began in 2018 investigating allegations of fraud and corruption within the public sector, implicated 1,438 people.
However, of that figure, only 200 of the cases are being investigated for criminal charges.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya: "Five laws have been passed coming out of that report. R11 billion has been recovered in terms of asset recovery. The government spent a billion rand on the commission, R11 billion is now in the fiscus coming out of that work. Institutions such as the NPA are being strengthened."
