CAPE TOWN - Some residents of Khayelitsha said the couple linked to the murder of seven-year-old Lolitha Kowa is not welcome anywhere in the area.
Odwa Jack and Nokuthula Matyeseni were back at the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Thursday.
They're accused of raping and killing the little girl at their home in Kuyasa.
Her body was found at a dumping site in the area last week.
The court has heard that the couple's home has been burned down, allegedly by angry community members.
The State is opposing their release on bail, citing the absence of a permanent address among other reasons.
Harare community policing forum (CPF) chairperson Mthetho Mahomba is urging the court not to release the pair on bail.
"That couple is no longer accepted in our community. We regard them as animals, and we don't have a place for such animals in our community; they belong in a zoo."
The case has been postponed to next week Friday, for the State to verify the couple's alternative address.
