CAPE TOWN - South Africa has made history at the 2025 International Mathematics Olympiad in Australia.

The young mathletes achieved the best results for South Africa in 25 years.

A learner attending Reddam House in Durbanville achieved a silver medal.

While pupils from different schools across the city achieved bronze medals, one of the learners shared with EWN how meeting people from across the world was a unique experience.

"In the first few days, I guess the main thing was the stress of the contest, knowing that the contest was about to happen, and it's just in two days. So how the contest works is that there's two days and each day is four and half hours with three questions, and we arrived two days before the contest.”
