JOHANNESBURG - Integrity Commission reports on Deputy President Paul Mashatile and Minister Thembi Simelane are expected to be tabled at the African National Congress’s (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) meeting, which resumes on Sunday morning.

The meeting, which shifted to Germiston on Saturday, will continue in the city east of Johannesburg.

This, after complaints from NEC members on Friday, forced the party to abandon the initial venue in Ormonde.

Yesterday, the party deliberated over the state of the economy, the Government of National Unity (GNU) and its alliance partner, the  South African Communist Party (SACP), seeking to contest elections outside of the ANC.

The ANC NEC is expected to deliberate on integrity reports relating to its deputy president, Paul Mashatile, and some of the negative press that has followed him.

While Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane’s VBS saga is also expected to come under discussion.

Both had been referred to the body, made up of elders in the ANC, over media coverage that might bring the party’s name into disrepute.

EWN understands the meeting, which continues in Germiston, has also heard a fair share of frustrations with NEC members complaining about logistics and feeling undermined by insufficient preparation for the gathering.

Others have complained of seniors and officials who treat the national working committee with disdain.

The venue east of Johannesburg has been a welcome reprieve for many who endured the biting cold on Friday.

The NEC meeting will wrap up on Monday.
