DURBAN - The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) delegation to KwaZulu-Natal says it has no intention of discussing misconduct allegations made by provincial police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, during its visit to the province on Monday.
The NCOP will meet KZN police top brass to get a better understanding of issues affecting policing.
While the visit comes weeks after Mkhwanazi made a series of allegations of interference within the police, the NCOP said this was not on its agenda.
Mzamo Billy is the head of the delegation: "Obviously, this is not about the allegations that have been brought into light by the provincial commissioner, which is already being dealt with through the commission of inquiry announced by the president but also through Parliament, which is also going to be able to process the allegations."
He said their aim was to look at issues affecting policing in KZN.
"Our job is not to deal with that but more importantly, our responsibility as representatives of the province into Parliament is to bring issues or challenges that are affecting the province."
