DURBAN - The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is set to meet with KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, and other police top brass on Monday in what it says is a bid to bring provincial issues to the attention of Parliament.
The NCOP's visit to the province comes almost a month after Mkhwanazi held a media briefing where he made bombshell allegations about the rot in the country’s police, judicial and political sectors.
Mkhwanazi implicated Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and crime detection commissioner, Shadrach Sibiya, in having a hand in criminal networks and elaborate cover-ups.

The NCOP delegation to KwaZulu-Natal said the main reason for its visit was to hear about the issues affecting policing and the work of law enforcement in the province.
The engagement is expected to focus on identifying key areas of cooperation between Parliament and the SAPS in the province.
These include legislative interventions required to improve policing and public safety, crime trends and the police’s response in the province.
The NCOP said that the spate of killings in the province was also on the agenda.
Leader of the KZN delegation, Mzamo Billy: "Those include, among other things, the killing of police and suspects, the political killings and many other issues affecting the different stakeholders in the province."
The delegation said it would on Wednesday meet with Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli and the executive council.
