DURBAN - The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) has vowed to prioritise acquiring a building for the (South African Police Service) SAPS in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
On Monday, the NCOP met with the police management in the province, looking into issues affecting police work in terms of resources.
While the meeting comes after explosive misconduct allegations by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the delegation did not focus on the matter.
The NCOP cited a lack of resources at police stations across the province as a major setback in crime-fighting efforts.
It also said delays in infrastructure and technology rollout have negatively impacted the service.

Meanwhile, the police management also raised concerns with millions of rands spent on renting a building for SAPS.
The NCOP's KZN provincial whip, Mzamo Billy, said they would escalate the matter with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
"We must allow police locally to be able to do their work and resource them better so that they could be able to do their work."
The delegation said it will come back in three months to provide feedback.
