Bail application to continue for 10 EMPD, SAPS members charged with theft

JOHANNESBURG – Ten Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EDPD) police and the South African Police Service (SAPS) officers charged with theft will spend another night in prison as their bail application is set to continue on Wednesday.
The officers made their first appearance before the Germiston Magistrates Court for their bail application on Tuesday.
They were nabbed for allegedly stealing stock and a large sum of money from a tuck shop in Edenvale in June.

As the officers walked into the Germiston Magistrates Court with their faces covered, each was asked to remove their masks to allow for the court to identify them
The officers have been charged with theft for taking stock from a shop in the East Rand during a spaza shop compliance operation.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phinidi Mjonodwane:
The State said it does not intend to oppose bail.
