JOHANNESBURG - Two car crashes have occurred on the N1 between Mokopane and Polokwane due to slippery roads caused by a hailstorm.
The Department of Transport in Limpopo is alerting motorists travelling on the busy route to be vigilant and drive with caution.
Cold weather conditions have resulted in showers in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, with hail reported in parts of Limpopo.
"There’s a hailstorm on the N1 between Polokwane and Mokopane. Two accidents have already occurred on the N1 south. The first one at Ysterberg, Mokopane, where three vehicles were involved in a sideswipe accident. The vehicles are a patrol tanker, a light delivery vehicle and a BMW sedan. Another accident occurred at Caltex next to the Range Resort, involving a head-on collision between a heavy motor vehicle and a light delivery vehicle," said department spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene.
