Two things about Tyla... she's going to fly the South African flag HIGH - and she's going to keep it real!

The latter is exactly what she did in her latest Variety interview, when she was asked in a classic game of This or That: Gen Z or South African slang?

Her response? Of course, the star picked South African slang...

As for her favourite slang word, it's 'Yoh!'

"Yoh! I say that every day - yoh is my favourite one, it can mean a hundred different things," Tyla said.

Tyla also played This or That with these questions:

  • Koeksisters (or koeWEKsisters as the AI voiceover says) or malva pudding?
  • Bunny chow or braai? (Spoiler alert: it's a braai for the vibes... and maybe there's a fight in between - REAL!)
  • Jo'burg or Cape Town?

There were more, but you'll have to scroll down to watch.

Off the back of Tyla's Grammy-Award winner, 'Water', her momentum continues. In April, she debuted 'Bliss' during her first performance at the Coachella festival (without telling her team in advance), and she released a new four-song EP in late July.

Later this year, Tyla will release a new amapiano single titled 'Chanel,' with her second album expected to follow. She told Variety, that her second album will be "a totally different vibe" to her first.

Between all this, Tyla has also become a high-fashion darling, delivering standout red carpet fare and we love it for her. But the part that we love most is that she's always proudly Mzansi, and it shows during interviews like this.

"I love all of her posts," says Friedman.
