JOHANNESBURG - The parents of a four-year-old girl are set to appear at the Protea Magistrate's Court on charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.
On Thursday, police acted on a tip-off and arrested the parents at their home in Eldorado Park, after receiving an anonymous tip that the child was being abused.
Police arrived to find the child in bloody clothes, lying on the bed, with bruises to her head and a swollen eye.
Johannesburg district police commissioner Nonhlanhla Khubeka said police rushed the child to Baragwanath Hospital.
“We have received a message that the child was not in a stable condition, so we had to arrange for the FCS to visit the crime scene. When they visited, they suspected that maybe there is something in the house and they searched the home and found clothes with blood.”
She said the father tried to resist arrest but was eventually taken in, adding that the mother was also arrested.
“At a later stage, the mother confirmed that the father has been abusing the two kids, so we had to arrest the mother.”
