Investment manager 27four and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic) have renewed their joint commitment to boosting South Africa’s economy through the Transformation Fund.
The announcement brings together government and finance leaders to discuss ways to promote inclusive growth, support industrialisation, and speed up Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE).
The Transformation Fund is a collaborative initiative between the dtic, the National Empowerment Fund (NEF), and key industry partners, which serve to finance black-owned and black-managed enterprises.
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau has welcomed partnerships of this nature, which he says are essential for the country’s growth trajectory.
Speaking to Stephen Grootes on The Money Show, Fatima Vawda, founder of 27four Investment Managers says public-private partnerships have worked well in the past.
"...for example, how the Solidarity fund was put together, with an alignment between the public sector and the private sector, we could achieve something similar when it comes to enterprise supply and development, equity equivalent programmes..."
- Fatima Vawda, founder - 27four Investment Managers
"Collectively with the private sector, we're talking about independent board of directors. We're talking independent ring-fenced bank accounts, etc. This is not being positioned as a slush-fund for malfeasance, corruption, etc.
- Fatima Vawda, founder - 27four Investment Managers
"This is really an opportunity of bringing together skills and experience, of bringing together capital to achieving better outcomes."
