Police are investigating the kidnapping and robbery of a senior official from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
Head of operations, Matthews Sesoko, was abducted on the R25 in Kempton Park on Friday night and later released safely around 2am on Saturday morning.
His state-issued cellphones and laptop were taken during the ordeal.
Sesoko has been leading several high-profile corruption investigations, including the case that saw Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo, and six other officials arrested in June.
The attack comes just days after IDAC head, Andrea Johnson, testified before Parliament's ad hoc committee.

"He's currently receiving medical attention following this traumatic incident. At this stage, the motive for such action is unknown and no speculation can be made on whether it is related to his work at IDAC, but the timing of this incident reflects the possible dangers in the space that he operates in."
