JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's tourism sector has injected R41 billion into the provincial GDP for the 2024/2025 financial year.
Economic Development and Finance MEC, Lebogang Maile, said this is well above the targeted R29 billion set by his department.
Maile shared the update during a briefing on the department’s performance on Sunday.
The MEC said the province has also welcomed 3.8 million international visitors, despite ongoing global challenges such as regional conflicts and extreme weather conditions.
"This growth was not accidental, it is a product of targeted strategic investment in increased airlift capacity, new routes development and heightened impact-driven destination marketing initiatives and strategic bidding and hosting of catalytic events and exhibitions."
